Guidance notes

If you need to view the Dairy please note that viewings are by appointment only. We have a strict policy to ensure the privacy of our clients during events. It is therefore important that you make an appointment in advance of your visit.

Use of Historic Venue
The Dairy is a National Trust property. National Trust properties are of cultural and historic importance to the nation. The Dairy must be treated with due care and respect at all times. Suppliers must ensure that any instructions or guidance given by The Dairy staff are strictly complied with.

Risk Assessments, Public Liability Insurance and Method Statements
These are a legal requirement and all venues should be making sure that their suppliers have assessed the risks associated with their profession.

You will be required to provide a risk assessment for any activities that we perceive to be a potential risk to The Dairy or its contents and a method statement of how you intend to alleviate these risks. If you have never been asked to produce this information, please contact us for a copy of the National Trust’s guidelines.

We insist that all suppliers provide evidence of £2m public liability insurance. You must ask your insurance broker to complete the National Trust evidence of insurance form. It is important that you ensure that this received by the Wedding Coordinator before the wedding day. If we have not received your completed form you will not be allowed to commence work at The Dairy.

Portable Appliance Testing
No electrical equipment shall be fixed or installed at The Dairy without the approval of the Wedding Coordinator. All portable equipment must have a current test certificate.

Please note that we carry out wedding day spot-checks of electrical equipment and if equipment fails a portable appliance test it may not be used at The Dairy.

Setting up and dismantling
The hire period for weddings at the Dairy is 8am to midnight, and some of our clients extend the period until 1am. We hold events at The Dairy most days of the week, so it is not usually possible to set up the day before.

Please telephone the Wedding Coordinator who will confirm the time that you can have access to set up and dismantle on the day that you are working at The Dairy.

Our Wedding Coordinator will also advise you of the best place to park to unload your vehicle. Please note that you may be required to move your vehicle as soon as you have unloaded.
